Pre-Second World War Lithuanian Jewish photographs provide a unique and irreplaceable record of a civilisation that no longer exists. Not unlike the diversity of people that once made and owned them, the vast majority of these always fascinating and often revealing images were either completely destroyed or otherwise displaced during the three years of incomprehensible savagery that followed Nazi Germany's invasion of Lithuania on June 22, 1941. The Data Brigade is a nonprofit organisation based in Lithuania that's dedicated to preserving all aspects of Lithuania's rich and abundant Jewish photographic heritage.
